Born in 1976, in Niigata, Japan, Graduated from Koyasan University in Esoteric Buddhism studies in 1999. Underwent Buddhist training at Mount Koya from 1995-1999. Visited and photographed various countries, including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Papua New Guinea. His photo series of the waves of Sado City was awarded the first FOIL Award in 2004, followed by the publication of his book, ‘NAMI’. For his work, Kajii received the Best New Artist Award in 2005 from The Photographic Society of Japan. While currently serving as a monk of the Shingon Buddhist sect on Sado Island, he is actively working as a photographer.
