Recreating a Setouchi houseboat
From ancient times until the early modern period, there were people in
East Asia who lived at sea on boats.
Families sailed together, drifting with the currents and fishing. In Setouchi,
the boats were called ebune . The
artist transformed an old house
near the sea into an ebune , adding a
prow and other features. Many young
artists will collaborate to produce
works that envision what happened
to these boats.
