Staying in past days
Paintings capture nature’s transformation of a vacant house
After an absence of several years, the artist visited Takamijima and discovered that many vacant homes had decayed even further. Yet stepping inside each one, she felt the powerful presence of past residents. Investigating the empty houses and vacant lots, she turned the former lives of these homes and their subsequent transformation into works of art. Paintings using mineral pigments on hemp paper are placed in spots such as the veranda where changes in the natural light alter the appearance of the colors and the images, giving them different expressions.
