Teshima Art Museum, the collaborative creation of architect Ryue Nishizawa and artist Rei Naito, opened in the fall of 2010. The site lies partway up a steep hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea and is bordered by terraced rice fields. Although these fields had long lain idle, they were revived for this project by local residents. This setting results in a beautiful fusion of nature, art and architecture. The museum interior is a single work, Matrix. Water seeps out of the floor and gives birth to “springs” as it pools and flows.
