Representation of a life on Oshima In 2012, the artist Tashima met N, a sanatorium resident, during an open air market event held on the island. Both men are originally from Kochi prefecture. N shared the story of his life, including his arrival at the sanatorium and conditions under Japan’s segregation policy. During a live painting event, Tashima made a picture scroll of the man’s life. With N’s support, he then created this installation based on the scroll.
