2013.04.06 Bad weather created unusual and magical effects at some sites

Today was the first time since the 2013 Triennale started that facilities and ferries were shut down due to bad weather. It was unfortunate that stormy weather warnings hit on a weekend when many people had plans to come, but it demonstrated that nature is really out of our control. Despite the weather, volunteer staff faithfully manned those sites that remained open.

And the bad weather wasn’t all bad. It created unusual and magical effects at some sites, such as Leandro Erlich’s “Beautifully Abandoned” at the top of Mt. Yashima. A thick mist covered the area so that approaching the work was like entering a different world. Here is a photo taken just before the site was closed due to heavy fog.
