The press conference held at Hikarie in Shibuya Tokyo on February 20 was filled to overflowing. On hand, were designer Kenya Hara and actress Kaho Minami. Hara is contributing his skills and experience to make sure that the charms of the Seto Inland Sea (Japan’s first national park) shine through the chaos of information space. His island guide cellphone application in particular is a masterpiece.

Kaho Minami attended the first Triennale in 2010 and was so impressed she offered to serve as a public relations ambassador. Minami will be collaborating with dance company director and choreographer Shuji Onodera to present performances on each island that are guaranteed to draw crowds.

Preparations for the Triennale have reached fever pitch. The Koebitai support volunteers are hard at work assisting with production of the many art installations. Setouchi Triennale 2013 is designed to extol the true wealth and beauty of the Seto Inland Sea, represented by the smiling faces of local islanders, and to celebrate the people who live on each island. Through their work, artists will uncover the treasures of the sea and the islands, and the homes, lifestyles, and traditions of this region.

The Triennale represents an opportunity to experience the past and the future of these islands, using all five sense. Prepare yourself to slow down and enjoy. A trip through the islands is a chance to “reset” your life.
