Temporal and spatial dramas of the natural and human worlds unfold before your eyes. Panoramas, large circular paintings that make viewers feel they are part of the scene, were immensely popular in early 19th century Europe, and subsequently panorama pavilions caught on in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1912). Using this approach, the artist has produced a 5-meter by 40-meter panorama with an accompanying diorama. The scenes depicted are from the Battle of Yashima, which was fought on this mountain in 1185, and include all the detailed dramas occurring in different places and times within the natural and human world, enveloping visitors in a dynamic experiential space.
