Following graduation from college, Yamada became one of the design staff at the Sou Fujimoto Architects, still a small　office at the time, during which she began designing her own work. She completed the master's course of the Department of Architecture at the Tokyo University of the Arts. She is currently the director of Suzuko Yamada Architects.
