Pyrethrum owers undergo a dramatic transformation
At one time, Takamijima flourished by cultivating pyrethrum flowers, which are used in mosquito coils. The artist cultivated pyrethrum with the islanders and then developed artworks in an abandoned house. This time the artist has produced an installation of burning coils and smoke from the pyrethrum he grew (top picture). In addition, he has created a space (bottom picture) celebrating the joy of discovery and a “comfortable physicality” using photos, partition paintings, and ceramics, all of which were produced in the process of discovering the flowers on Takamijima.
