2019.11.27 【The event of ART SETOUCHI】December 8: “Island's Birthday Party”~Let's make a Christmas Ornament!~

Setouchi Triennale (Chairman: Keizo Hamada, Governor of Kagawa Prefecture) Executive Committee is working on the “ART SETOUCHI” activity, which aims to revitalize and regenerate the local vitality through art even outside of “Setouchi Triennale” held once every 3 years.
As part of this “ART SETOUCHI” event, “Island's Birthday Party” will be held on Teshima on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

This event is held once a month on Teshima for interaction of people. Local people of Teshima and visitors cerebrate to whom have birthday month. (This time is in December).

The birthday party in December will be called “Let's make a Christmas Ornament!” and invites “Setoumi clinical art society” as a teacher.

Let's make our own Christmas tree decoration and have fun together.

“Setoumi clinical art society”
It began in September 2018 when the member was strongly inspired by the heavy rain disaster in West Japan.
Clinical artists in Setouchi works together to help each other.
Clinical art is a technique that stimulates the brain by enjoying the fruits and vegetables of the motif and taking in the process of remembering past experiences while enjoying drawing and making sculpture. In addition to preventing dementia in the elderly and developing children's full sensibility, it is expected to be effective in reducing stress.

The following facilities and museums are also open on that day.

2019.11.15 Setouchi Triennale 2019 has been featured on the website of New York Times

Setouchi Triennale 2019, which ended on November 4th, has been featured in the article of “The 52 Places Traveler On an Art Scavenger Hunt in Japan's Seto Inland Sea” on the website of New York Times on 12 November.


In January of this year, “Setouchi Islands” was selected as the seventh place of “52 Places to Go in 2019” in the article of the same website. This time, the charms of lifestyle on the islands as well as artworks have been introduced in the article.

●Seppuku Pistols

Under the watchword “Turn Japan into Edo period!” they wear the Japanese traditional farmer’s kimono and playing Japanese traditional instruments. Each member acts in the field of a local research, films, craftsman, agriculture and Terakoya (private school) etc.
The group was born in Tokyo on the New Year's Eve 1999, and currently organized around 10 members across Japan.
They are the Japanese musical instrument team, which has gained popularity by performing and parading with drums, Shamisen, a bell, and Shino flute from the port to the village. In addition, at the temples and shrines, they are performing and parading as “The Edo first squad”.
