ISLAND INDEX

AWASHIMA

Japan’s oldest naval training school, the National Mercantile Marine School, was established here in 1897 and boasted a proud 90-year history until its closing in 1987. Art projects will be held around the Marine Memorial Awashima.

Getting Around the Island

Located about 15 minutes away from Suda port, Awashima has two ports: Awashima, where the regular ferry docks, and Kamishinden Port. If you only intend to visit the art sites, Awashima Port is the most convenient. Suda port can be reached from JR Takuma station by bus.
